Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
